David R. Higgins, PhD, Becomes Member of iDiverse’s Business and Scientific Advisory Board
Del Mar, CA, January 10, 2007 – iDiverse today announced that Dr. David R. Higgins has joined iDiverse’s Business and Scientific Advisory Board.
“We are sincerely fortunate to have Dr. Higgins join our team,” said John Burr, president and CEO of iDiverse. “Dr. Higgins is a recognized expert in yeast biology and that is precisely the focus of our work right now. As we develop our high-performance yeast to produce fuel ethanol, Dr. Higgins’ guidance will be invaluable.”
“I have first-hand experience with this technology and believe that it could have a significant impact on the production of fuel ethanol from corn, but more importantly from biomass”, said Dr. Higgins. “Yeast produces fuel ethanol through the metabolism of carbohydrates. iDiverse’s technology has the potential to protect yeast from the harsh stresses of the production process – all leading to higher production of ethanol at lower cost.”
Dr. Higgins has a diversified background spanning research, project management, and business development. He has held positions at Invitrogen, Chiron, and Idun Pharmaceuticals and was most recently EVP, Business Development and Head of US Operations for BioMedica, Inc. Dr. Higgins was trained in biology and earned his PhD in molecular biology and genetics from the University of Rochester.
